One of the first suppliers we found was Union Hand-Roasted Coffee. From our initial research we knew how important a great cup of coffee is to Bowes Park and Bounds Green locals and you can’t get better than Union! They are an amazing company, based in West Ham, who practice direct trade with coffee farmers around the world.

They roast their coffee every day in small batches in London to display the coffee’s fullest expression of flavour and aroma. We serve their delicious Revelation blend with beans from Indonesia, East Africa and Latin America. It’s their most admired blend with complex floral aromatics, ripe red fruit notes of cherry and a dark caramel treacle-like body to leave a sweet enduring finish.

Their buying philosophy is driven by their demand for high quality and they have found that the best way to ensure quality is to support the sustainable livelihoods of smallholder coffee farmers. They farmers to prosper so they guarantee the price that is paid directly to them, independent of other supply chain costs. Their quality-first approach incentivizes farmers to produce exceptional tasting Arabica coffee. Their experience shows that an effective way to get access to this level of quality is by engaging directly, through open discussion and by negotiating sustainable prices with farmers who recognise the value of the crop they produce.

They’ve given us lots of invaluable training and some great advice. We will be making our coffee using a beautiful La Marzocco Linea, which is a heavy duty machine that has helped launch the finest independent coffee bars as well as the global leaders in specialty coffee retail. The Linea sets the standards by which all other professional espresso machines are judged. It’s the perfect partner for Union Coffee and we can’t wait to start using it to serve our customers delicious coffees!
