The Step… End of An Era
So…the very sad news is out there now that The Step will close in the next few weeks after eight happy, crazy, beautiful and exhausting years. The response we have had has been truly overwhelming and makes us proud to live in and work in this very special community. We have made so many friends and created enough happy memories to last a lifetime.
Obviously people have a lot of questions and we really don’t think it is fair on our brilliant Step team to have to try and field them on our behalf – It is also a very hard time for them.
First of all, it has been a very difficult and heart-breaking decision because The Step has been at the centre of our lives for so long. There are many factors we have taken into account but the single reason, smack bang in the middle of everything, is our family is the most important thing in the world to us and we have found the last couple of years a bit of a struggle.
Bringing up a young toddler with a dedicated aversion to sleep and running a business that may close, but never really sleeps, do not go hand in hand. We also want to spend more time with our parents, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and friends, if they remember what we look like.
We don’t know exactly when we will close but we’ve got our eye on Sunday 1 March and the next Myddleton Road Market but that will depend on many things. Fingers and toes crossed.
We don’t know what will happen to the space at the moment but the building is up for sale so watch this space. Hopefully somebody will be able to take it on and create something you can be proud of and will all enjoy.
And yes….in true Step style there will be a party. There might not be any furniture left but there will be music and dancing and revelry. We’ll let you know more nearer the time but we will go out on a high.
All that is left to say is thank you. It has been an unbelievable decade for us – we went from fresh faced young chancers to weary, middle aged parents but would not have had it any other way. The response over the last few days have had us in tears but all we really did was recognise an amazing, unique community and held a mirror up to it, cooked some food, made some drinks, played some music and let you get on with it. You’re all very special and we have loved the eight years we have spent with you.
All our love
